TRAIN travellers were delayed by up to half an hour following signalling problems at Newton Abbot station. Delays of up to 30 minutes were reported on Tuesday morning and the problems continued until 10am when services were running normally again. Two sets of points were affected at the station just before 7am. A Network Rail spokesman said: ‘We lost control of two sets of points at Newton Abbot station. ‘The problem was managed through the rush hour by setting the points in a single position but it then emerged that a power system in the points had failed. ‘This was replaced by 8am but the works mean that significant delays were experienced through the rush hour and into the morning by passengers on the line. ‘Network Rail would like to apologise to everyone who was affected by this.’
