AUTUMN kicked off in style at Oxen Park Farm this week, as it hosted its farm open day, led by community veg bag scheme Teign Greens and the land-based education project On The Hill.
The day was well attended, with 150 people from across the Teign Valley community coming together. As well as farm tours and talks there was there was a variety of antics to get up to, such as apple pressing, a farmers’ olympic games, wood-fired pizzas and the rather unique ‘porridge jousting’.
The open day raised more than £250 towards the farm’s new defibrillator - which will serve the communities of higher and lower Ashton, and several hundred more pounds towards the education project.
Tim Dickens, Teign Greens farmer and organiser of the day, said: ‘It was a smashing day and the sun shone on the farm as people turned up to see where their local vegetables are grown.
‘People loved touring the farm - trying out different vegetables and meeting the sheep. An absolute highlight was our first annual Farmer’s Olympics.’
