TRACK down your favourite poems, and bring them along for others to share.
That is the offer from Poetry Teignmouth for their next session at the Oystercatchers Cafe on Monday, August 15.
‘Let’s hear your reasons too,’ says Ian Chamberlain from the group.
‘What is it about a poem that appeals? Why do some poems stick in the mind, is it a particular poet who speaks to you, are the poems you learned by heart at school still important to you?
‘Any era, any language, any subject… if a poem is important to you, it will almost certainly be appreciated by the Poetry Teignmouth crew.
‘And if you’re a newcomer or reluctant to read aloud yourself, one of our bunch of excellent regulars will help out.
‘Because there will be none of our usual detailed analysis of poems, we should have time to read many more on this occasion.
‘And for the future – if there’s a particular poet you would like us to feature, bring one or two examples to convince us.’
Jennie Osborne will be leading another course for the poetry school in the autumn.
It starts on the evening of Tuesday, September 13, for five sessions, once a fortnight, at the community centre in Exeter.
The theme is ‘In Other Voices’ and will examine writing in the voice of people, real or fictional, animals and various other personae.
