WAR has been declared on irresponsible dog owners who allow their pets to foul the streets of Shaldon.

Parish councillors have had so many complaints about the mess, they commissioned a portable notice board which is being moved to different troublespots appealing for residents to help stamp out the fouling.

The campaign message is ‘pick up dog poo please’.

And they have also recruited a volunteer to train as a dog warden.

‘The problem seems to be getting worse – we have had a flood of complaints about dog mess on the pavements, and on the King George V playing field,’ said Cllr Chris Clarance.

‘The council decided that something had to be done, and the A-frame board will be chained up around the village to spread the message.
