SHALDON Bridge will be closed during the half-term holiday next week.
From Monday to Friday 25 February 21 to 25 repair work will be carried out.
The work consists of repairs to the bridge’s curtain wall nosing and the further investigation of a defect recently discovered in the bridge’s lifting chamber.
During the closure, maintenance teams will take the opportunity to clean the gullies.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Management, said: ’We apologise for the inconvenience, however the work has to be done. Pedestrians will still be able to use the bridge, and we hope to open it to traffic at the end of each working day, but this will depend on the extent of the repairs needed.’
Traffic lights will be in place when the closure isn’t required, and diversion signs will be in place.
The annual maintenance including the bridge opening was originally planned for these dates - this is now likely to happen the October Half Term.
