BAD weather has forced workmen to postpone essential safety repairs on Shaldon Bridge, it has been revealed.
The bridge was set to be shut tonight between 6.30pm and 10.30pm so a damaged pier containing rotten timber piles could be fixed.
But highways chiefs announced work had been halted following ‘adverse weather conditions’ in the last few days.
A spokesman explained: ‘Strong winds and rain over the weekend have delayed preparatory work on the Grade II Listed structure and has put back the schedule for when concrete will be poured around the pier.’
The work will be rescheduled when suitable tide times and weather conditions permit.
