Shaldon batted first on cold evening at Brixham's superb new facilities at North Boundary Road.

Openers Ed Harte and Fred Fearnley had to work hard to score runs on a flat strip.

Fearnley stuck at it and eventually scored a worthy 15 before being bowled by Tom Farr.

Shaldon's top two batsmen this season, Dan Woolnough and Joe Wilcox, also struggled – Wilcox was bowled by Jonathan Newman trying to hit out, but Woolnough stuck to the task, scoring 22 before also being bowled by Newman.

Shaldon's total of 87 looked below par, but the game had the makings of a tight finish.

Brixham began their innings more briskly than Shaldon and seemed well capable of winning at the half way stage.

Isaac Withington, batting at number five, scored well, and when he retired after reaching 25 he had given Brixham a good chance of reaching the total.

However, Shaldon fielded well – with Aidan Fisher and newcomer Ben Bailey standing out – and took wickets at crucial times.

Wilcox, Smith, Harte, Fearnley and Butterfield all took wickets, and when the final over arrived Brixham still needed 17 runs for the win.

Shaldon's skipper Woolnough bowled fast and accurately to restrict them to five to give his side a 12-run victory.

This was Shaldon's final league fixture of the season in which they recorded four wins and a tie.
