NEWTON Abbot residents are being invited to comment on the town’s Neighbourhood Plan.
It has been created by Newton Abbot Town Council with help from Newton Abbot Community Interest Company and Teignbridge Council.
The plan, covering a 20-year period, contains aims, planning policies and proposals for improving the area or providing new community, sports and leisure facilities.
The consultation period will come to an end at noon on November 26.
The plan can be seen at Forde House, Newton Abbot Town Council offices and the Passmore Edwards Centre in Newton Abbot.
A neighbourhood plan is about letting the people who know about and care for an area plan for it and It will complement other development plans for the area, including Teignbridge’s Local Plan, once it is passed by an examiner and ratified by the community through a referendum.
The announcement has been welcomed by Teignbridge Council’s ward members for Newton Abbot.
Cllr Judy Grainger said: ‘It is a very positive statement about a very positive future for our growing town.’
Cllr Colin Parker said: ‘I am extremely pleased to see the neighbourhood plan moving on.
‘I recommend our residents get involved in having their say.’
Cllr Mike Hocking said: ‘I urge you all to read and comment on this plan throughout the consultation period because we have one chance to get it right for Newton Abbot and its people.’
