THE sea turned bright green at Teignmouth this week, but it was all part of the campaign to try and avoid a bathing ban being imposed on the main beach.

Unless the water quality improves by next year, signs warning against bathing will have to be erected under strict new European laws.

Currently the water quality is reckoned to be 'poor', and if it stays that way, the dreaded signs will go up, which could devastate the holiday trade.

The Environment Agency, South West Water and Teignbridge Council have combined to try and trace the source of pollutants.
