Cllr chris Methreal, of Timeteign office, Metherell Library, Calvados Park, Kingsteignton, writes:

As chairman of Teignbridge Archaeological Society (Timeteign), I feel it is important to inform your readers of the heritage and historic sabotage currently being sought by Codex’s latest revised application.

It is clear and evidently obvious in my opinion that this developer seeks to destroy our Kingsteignton Local Plan provision for green space at the top of Penns Mount.

Five hectares of green space was set aside to ensure the estuary views and panoramic site at the hill top would be left open for all the community; again this was raised and secured at the last planning consultation and TDC application planning session in Newton Abbot.

Encouraged by TDC weakness and recent changes in staffing, it appears Kingsteignton is about to have its history and heritage wiped out and diluted by planners suggesting that the Roman hill-fort is not what has been reported and shown to mayor Cllr Meathrel (2014-15) during the dig by Will Smith, AC Archaeology for Linden Homes (phase 1 and 2).

How, one may ask, is it possible for Newton Abbot to retain its medieval heritage but Kingsteignton – with an older heritage – have it removed and erased for ever without so much as a whimper from its residents?

The question of migrants and refugees from other parts of Britain has, maybe, weakened the Devonian heart, leaving no stomach for a fight to save our heritage. I beg to differ and will be seeking to save this site, as failing to do so would be sacrilege!
