A YOUNG Teignmouth cadet was due to be presented to the Queen when she visited Exeter yesterday.

Alexandra Turner, who is head of the Royal Navy section of the Trinity School Combined Cadet Force, was appointed in October by the Devon Lord Lieutenant, Eric Dancer, as his cadet, and was scheduled to accompany him throughout the visit.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were expected to travel by the royal train to mark the start of the Cadet 150 celebrations in Devon, to be greeted by about 1,000 cadets from across the county at Wyvern Barracks.

The cadets from Trinity School, Teignmouth, are pictured here proudly displaying their new climbing equipment funded by a grant from the Royal Navy Combined Cadet Force.

New helmets, harnesses and ropes will enable the cadets to make the best use of the climbing wall in the school grounds, and to venture further afield to local climbing spots such as Dartmoor and the cliffs of the south Devon coast.
