A ROAD in Shaldon will be closed ‘indefinitely’ due to damage caused by rough seas.
The exposed stretch of Marine Parade will be shut until displaced debris is cleared and damage is repaired.
Some of the road surface has been dislodged and moved, with shards of asphalt ending up scattered across the beach.
Some of the sea wall has also been dislodged, as well as some sections of handrail.
What remains of the wall is visibly unstable, with large cracks running along it and even a hole appearing.
The damage was done on Friday morning (March 2), at around the same time that Dawlish train station was shut due to flooding and debris on the line.
The road closure is in place from The Ferry Boat Inn to The Ness. The route is passable on foot, however pedestrians should take extra care.
