THE A38 is blocked this afternoon (Friday, April 17) due to a vehicle fire.

Police were called to reports of heavy smoke coming from a vehicle on the northbound carriageway of the A38 at Haldon just after 3pm.

Two crews from Middlemoor and Danes Castle fire stations attended.

The smoke was found to be a result of a blown engine and not a fire, Devon and Somerset Fire and rRescue Service has confirmed.

Crews remained in attendance for scene safety until National Highways arrived to move the vehicle.

Devon & Cornwall Police told the Mid-Devon Advertiser that no injuries have been reported.
