A SCHEME to shoehorn 40 new homes onto a steep Teignmouth hillside just below a 600ft ridge was roundly condemned by residents who packed a town council planning sub-committee on Tuesday.

A developer wants to build the houses on fields at the top of Higher Woodway Road, adjoining Thatcher Drive and Hazel Close.

But neighbours maintain the steeply sloping site would be difficult to develop, and visible on the skyline from a long distance.
