The Rev Preb Graham Stones, team rector, Haldon Team Ministry, writes:

May I thank those who gathered at St James', Teignmouth, on Sunday to honour those townsfolk who died in the first world war as their names were recited with thanksgiving for their sacrifice?

After the service we found an Armed Forces Veteran's medal outside St James'. If its owner would care to contact me, I'll be glad to see it safely returned.

Your excellent article on wreaths laid by cadets of TS Canonteign in memory of the Seabees in last Friday's edition, reminded me of my own father's role as an RN signalman serving in Coastal Command, leading a string of US landing craft from the Falmouth area to Omaha Beach.

In passing, I suspect no one will be more surprised by Arthur Brooks' apparent ordination in that same article (caption: The Rev Arthur Brooks) than Arthur himself.

By no means 'plain' Mr Brooks, Arthur, as a Reader of the Church of England, has faithfully served the Sea Cadets in practical and spiritual matters for many years.<
