RELIEF supplies from ‘generous’ Teignmouth residents will be arriving in Calais this weekend.

Thousands of refugees are stranded in appalling conditions around the French port, and with winter fast approaching, the situation is likely to get much worse.

For the last few weeks residents have been contributing essential items to help the men, women and children waiting in the camps, and the first large vanload will leave tomorrow for Dover.

One of the organisers, Fran Hamilton, said the priority at the moment was for warm clothing, sleeping bags and blankets, and she, John Adey and Jane Moss, would be making the crossing.

She said: ‘Everybody has been so generous, and we now have enough supplies for the moment.
