SHALDON Regatta, the oldest in the country, had a sunny start on Sunday with the long-distance row from Dawlish to Shaldon.

Forty nine dinghies took to the water in fairly windy but moderate conditions.

The Chirney Cup for the first men's pair home went to James Stoyle and Ed Rawlings, after a terrific battle with last year's winners, Patrick Gaskin and Andy Darkin.

Sue Heath and veteran rower Chris Connell were first over the line to take the Deborah Tosio Memorial Trophy for the mixed pairs.
