CRICKETERS in Shaldon are celebrating a double victory.

Not only has Shaldon Optimists Cricket Club won promotion in the Devon League for a second year in a row, but planners have unanimously approved their bid to stay at their current ground at Hazeldown Oval, Teignmouth, for three years.

Delighted chairman Glynn Ballman said: 'It is fantastic.

'We have had various homes over the years but this is a superb, level ground and we are working hard to take care of and improve it all the time.'

Club members were already celebrating the first XI's promotion to the D Division, which they clinched in the last game of the season on Saturday, needing five points to move up and gaining seven.
