A TEIGNBRIDGE town has been designated a hedgehog hotspot.

The number of the little creatures found in Chudleigh is on the increase and one resident said they are ‘alive and well and flourishing – unless they get squashed on our roads’.

A few months ago a young orphan hedgehog known as Barney was found by Fore Street resident Magda Breadmore and taken to the Elm Wildlife Hedgehog Rescue Centre in Torquay where it was hand-reared.

The elm is the largest hedgehog hospital in Devon and currently cares for up to 80 hedgehogs, and has received about 400 casualties since they began about a year ago.
