A BID to attract more people to stand for office to become Teignbridge councillors has been launched.
Leaders of the Tory, Lib Dem and Independent parties are discussing ways to draw in more candidates.
One of the things discouraging people to stand could be the start times for council meeting which are usually 10am.
The leaders have decided to experiment with the timings and have moved October and November’s overview and scrutiny meetings to 4pm.
A spokesman for the district authority said: ‘Group leaders have recently met to discuss ways of attracting candidates to stand for office.
‘A suggestion was to change the start time of two overview and scrutiny meetings, which will now be at 4pm, and this was agreed by the three leaders.
‘All councillors have been advices of this change. Should any members feel unhappy about these changes then they would need to speak to their leader.’
The next elections for Teignbridge will be in 2019.
