TEIGNMOUTH'S town centre cop shop is closing next week.

The premises in Wellington Street is a victim of the cuts in the police budget.

It means the public now has no direct access to officers.

The £1 million control centre in the grounds of the former Mount Everest building in Exeter Road is not open to the public, who will now have to use the telephone to contact an officer.

The mayor of Teignmouth described it as 'a sad day'.
