DRUNKEN yobs could have jeopardised the future of the highly popular Teignmouth carnival music festival.
Thousands enjoyed the bands on the Den without causing any problems, but the Saturday night was marred by an outbreak of violence and rowdyism from just a handful.
Police moved in when trouble flared, and made six arrests – all of them adults.
Now the police are seeking a review of the event, saying their resources were stretched by the troublemakers.
Carnival boss Dave Matthews, however, says he wanted barriers to be put around the green so they could monitor all those attending the free event.
'I had the barriers on site ready to erect, but Teignbridge told us that they could not permit it under health and safety regulations because people could be trapped if there was a fire,' he said.
