Police have appealed dog owners in Teignbridge to keep their pets under control after several incidents of sheep worrying.
The police Neighbourhood Alert put out the urgent message: ‘Unfortunately, over recent weeks, we have had a number of reports where sheep have been chased and attacked or killed by dogs. This can be very upsetting for all those involved.
‘Livestock worrying is a criminal offence. Action could be taken against you and your dog.
‘Please be a responsible dog owner.
‘This means knowing where your dog is and managing its behaviour.
‘If livestock are present – keep it on a lead. (But release if chased by cattle.)’
‘If you see livestock worrying occurring, report it. Use 999 if it is ongoing, otherwise use 101 or [email protected]’
