TEIGNMOUTH is set to have its first regular sea link with Torbay and Dartmouth since before the war.

A regular weekly service is scheduled to begin in the spring and if all goes well it could be extended.

The trips have been welcomed by the mayor, who predicted it would mean another tourism boost for the resort.

From May, the 23m Dart Venturer, which can carry up to 250 passengers, will start weekend pleasure trips from Polly Steps in the harbour.

It will arrive at about 10am, bringing trippers from Torquay, where the vessel is based, and then return to Torquay, before heading down to Dartmouth.

Passengers will have the option of returning to Teignmouth via steam train from Kingswear to Paignton, and then transferring to a mainline service, or taking a bus back.<
