Angela Healy, for Teignmouth Players, writes:
Following the article in the Teignmouth Post, Theatre plans leap another hurdle, the Teignmouth Players would like to clarify their position with regard to the proposed Carlton Pavilion.
The Teignmouth Players Amateur Dramatic Society is a charity. We have leased the Carlton Theatre from Teignbridge Council and managed it since 1984. None of us receives payment for what we do.
We should like to make it clear that we support the proposals for the Carlton Pavilion. However, at the time of writing, we do not know who will run the new facility. Currently, there is no suggestion that the Teignmouth Players will have that responsibility, although we hope and believe that we shall be represented on the managing body.
The Teignmouth Players will not occupy the Carlton Pavilion in the way that we currently occupy the Carlton Theatre. The proposed multi-purpose building will incorporate a theatre but, as far as we know, there is no provision for storage of set building materials, costumes, props and other equipment. We understand that there may be space available to hire for rehearsals and we shall be able to hire the Carlton Pavilion's theatre to present our shows.
Nothing is certain at this stage but we it is clear that, when the Carlton Theatre is gone, we shall need a new 'home'. This is our main concern and we hope that Teignbridge Council will help us to find one.
Whatever happens at the Carlton Pavilion, the Teignmouth Players will continue as a society and as a charity. The future may be uncertain and, perhaps, challenging but we believe it also holds many opportunities and we look forward to making the most of them.MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
