PROPOSALS for residents’ parking in Teignmouth have been given a thumbs down by residents and councillors.

Various streets in and around the town centre were identified as suitable for the system in a bid to alleviate the chronic parking congestion suffered by residents.

The scheme was suggested after years of work and a £10,000 survey and consultation process. But county council officers admitted there was a lot of opposition, and town councillors on Tuesday unanimously voted against it.

But they did concede that it might be feasible in Salisbury Terrace and part of Higher Brimley, where there are extreme parking problems.

Another recommendation to keep the Upper Den Carriageway on the seafront open to traffic for longer in the summer was also red-carded.
