TEIGNMOUTH'S mayor says he is disappointed at an apparent lack of interest in 'the largest issue affecting the town since the war'.

Cllr David Cox is urging residents to give their opinions on a new planning document, which could give the go-ahead for hundreds of new houses, leading to a big increase in the population, with wide ranging implications.

He is concerned that the scale of the developments in the Teignbridge Council core strategy document has been largely overlooked by the public.

'But that is hardly surprising as Teignbridge hasn't exactly gone out of its way to make this known.

'There has been little or no use made of the local press, and public consultation meetings have been held to largely invited audiences,' he said.
