NEARLY 80 people descended on Buckland Athletic Football Club last week in a bid to drum up some cash for Cancer Research UK.

The club held a charity pig racing night, which saw 74 hopefuls whip up more than £1,000 for the charity.

Guests, who helped raise the £1,123 total, included the mayor of Newton Abbot Cllr Liz Roberts, who is pictured right checking out the form.

Organiser-in-chief Barbara Haarer thanked everyone who made the evening a success.

Cancer Research’s next event will be an annual coffee morning on March 4 from 10am until noon at Denbury Village Hall.
