An ‘exciting’ donation of more than 300 photographs of Teignmouth’s Brook Hill School during the massive upheavals of the 1970s has made a timely arrival in the town.

Former teacher George Drake (pictured right), an enthusiastic photographer, died 30 years ago, and his son Tony has painstakingly copied all the slides for Teign Heritage.

Some show the construction of the dual carriageway, carving a swathe of tarmac through the centre of town, that meant pupils were virtual prisoners in the playground .

Others show the demolition of the school that occupied what is now the Waitrose site.

Historian and Post columnist Viv Wilson described the collection as exciting, and a selection will be included in her second Brook Hill School film show (1960s and 1970s) to be staged at 2.30pm on Monday in the Teign Room at Teign Heritage museum.

Other items such as log books and memorabilia will also be displayed. Entrance is free but donations are welcome.

Ms Wilson will present the complete two-hour Brook Hill School film show at 2.30pm on Sunday, February 7, at the same venue for those who missed it first time round.
