POWER cuts, shut schools and, of course, flooding were just some of the after-effects of Storm Ciarán, which swept across Devon last week.

The storm brought winds of up to 75mph in places, and its destructive power was felt all across Teignbridge, with the district’s coastal communities taking the brunt.

The seafronts at both Dawlish and Teignmouth took a considerable beating, with substantial damage occurring at both towns.

Teignmouth Pier sustained serious damage, and walls along the promenade were partially destroyed also. More than 250 schools throughout the county made the decision to and numerous roads in the area became impassable due to flooding.

The strong winds and persistent rain led to more than 80 reported incidents of fallen trees.
