Residents are making a last-ditch attempt to scupper a plan to open a Wetherspoon pub in Teignmouth.
The pub chain wants to spent £1.6 million converting the former Tiggs store in Station Road, and has applied for a change of use.
The company is negotiating with Teignbridge Council over measures to mitigate noise and nuisance from an outdoor terrace behind the premises.
Residents of Bickford Lane have drawn up a petition, which was due to be presented to the council yesterday.
One of the organisers, Tony McHale, said the revised plans showed a second smoking area on the ground floor in Lower Brook Street, and it was clear that Wetherspoon, despite the close proximity of residents in both Bickford Lane and Lower Brook Street, was clearly targeting the rear of the building for significant outdoor trading, particularly in summer.
