HE did it! Peter Hartley the chairman
designate of the Teignmouth Lifeboat
Fundraising Team has achieved his
goal of virtually climbing Mount
Kilimanjaro.
This has been an effort of daily
climbing for a total of 67 days in all
weathers but focused on achieving
the goal of the climb to raise funds
for the RNLI at Teignmouth.
Peter would like to thank all of the
volunteers and the many friends and
family who have donated already
whose thoughts and encouragement
proved a great inspiration on the way.
Thank you
£2,100 has been pledged already
but he is asking everyone to make
one final effort to support the excellent
work of the brave volunteer crew
of Teignmouth RNLI.
You can do this by visiting the Just
Giving page at: https://www.justgiving.

Unfortunately, for the second consecutive
year, it will not be possible
to hold an open, face to face annual
meeting, which is scheduled for 7pm
on Thursday, March 25.
For those readers who are registered
RNLI volunteers with internet access,
the meeting will go ahead via Zoom,
and the agenda and papers for the
meeting will be emailed later in the
month.
The formal notice of the meeting
will include a link and password
which when clicked will take you
through to the online meeting.
For those without internet access,
paper copies will be posted, but joining
the meeting will unfortunately not
be possible.
In terms of fundraising, we hope to
resume normal activities later in the
year should restrictions be lifted.
In the meantime, the RNLI Teignmouth
lifeboat station is one of the
chosen charities of the year of Cllr
Alison Foden, the Mayor of Dawlish.
While this year has been particularly
difficult for fundraising, the
Dawlish Charity Bingo have chosen
to support her chosen charities,
including the RNLI Teignmouth
at their one-off virtual Easter Live
Bingo event on Wednesday, April 14,
at 8pm.
On this evening there will be five
virtual full standard bingo games
(£25 prize for the line and £50 for the
full house) and a bonus flyer game
(roughly £65 prize for the line and
£80 for the full house!
Tickets for the event will cost £10
each and the event will be delivered
via a Facebook livestream. See
for further details and to
buy your tickets.
And finally, some safety advice:
when you see big waves hitting the
coast please stay well back.
It may seem fun to wait for a wave
to sweep up the beach or along the
sea wall, but only 15cm of water can
knock you off your feet.
Bear this in mind when the weather
is stormy or conditions are rough.
And don’t be caught out by the ‘seventh
wave’.
Remember that the wave in the
middle of a set is often bigger and
can reach further up the beach or
along the promenade. Remember
please, that if you have to be rescued
you are putting our Lifeboat crew at
risk.
