PAVILIONS Teignmouth hosted an exciting and innovative day of drama, when the Raw Festival came to town.
Raw is a platform for emerging performers and playwrights from the University of Exeter’s drama department.
Now in its fifth year, this was an opportunity for students and recent graduates to show their new work to a range of audiences in a local venue.
More than 150 students from the university joined Teignmouth residents to watch the performances.
Martin Harvey, drama lecturer at the university, coordinated the event.
He said: ‘This is the first time we’ve staged the Raw platform outside Exeter and it could not have gone better.
‘We brought all the freshers down to see the work, which clearly delighted and excited them.
‘The unique position of the Pavilions, the excellent facilities and the wonderful welcome from all who work there, made it a truly memorable occasion for performers and audience alike.’
Teignmouth resident Brenda Banks was in the audience.
She said: ‘Congratulations Pavilions for showing Raw.
‘The performances were brilliant, often deeply thought-provoking and sometimes so joyous that one’s heart danced.
‘I felt privileged to be there in the audience and hope that Exeter University can be persuaded to show their student work in Teignmouth again next year.’
