ALMOST three quarters of over-60s in Devon have claimed their free concessionary bus pass, new research shows.
The findings highlight how bus travel is helping older residents stay independent, active, and socially connected.
Survey respondents report that 57per cent use the bus to visit friends and family, while the same number say it helps them avoid the hassle and cost of parking.
In addition, 39per cent say taking the bus gives them greater freedom, allowing residents to get out and about for shopping, appointments, and leisure activities.
Peter Knight, Managing Director of Stagecoach South West, said: ‘Free bus travel is making a real difference for older people across Devon.
‘It helps them stay connected with loved ones, maintain their independence, and enjoy their communities.
‘Many residents also report that their bus pass encourages them to take part in social activities and explore new hobbies.’
The survey also highlighted that a significant number of respondents would choose the bus over other forms of transport, underlining the importance of accessible and reliable local services.
Stagecoach South West is encouraging anyone eligible who has not yet applied for their free bus pass to take advantage of the scheme.
