TRIBUTES have been paid to Kents Cavern’s longest serving employee who died suddenly at his Newton Abbot home in June.
Terry Williams had worked at the popular Torquay tourist attraction for 29-years as an Educational Officer.
The skittle player and Torquay United fan died on June 18 aged 64.
Nick Powe, director of Kents Cavern, said: ‘Everyone here is devistated by this sad news.
‘We have lost a very special person, much loved and respected by us all.
‘He was totally committed and dedicated to everything that goes on here. He was a genuine person, easy to get on with, who never put himself first and would go out of his way to support colleagues and friends.
‘He was the life and soul of many a staff evening out.’
Terry was born in 1953 and graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in Ecological Sciences in 1975.
He joined the Kents Cavern team in 1988 as a seasonal guide before being promoted a year later to Educational Officer.
Mr Powe added: ‘Over the years Terry inspired thousands of school children with his unique guiding style, a style that captured your imagination as he shared his fascination for caves, the Stone Age and the natural environment.
‘Many local people remember their first school trip to Kents Cavern and for nearly 30 years it was Terry who made those memories.
‘He will be sadly missed by us all.’
Terry’s funeral will be held at Torquay Crematorium on August 21 at 4.15pm.
