A MIDWIFE from Ipplepen has had her moped stolen not once but twice while working at Torbay Hospital.

NHS nurse Maggie Traynor, who works nights on the maternity unit, has been hit for the second time after her brand new £1,500 125 Lexmoto moped was taken from directly outside where she works.

Maggie was struck for the second time recently despite leaving the moped in her line of vision from the unit entrance and in view of the hospital’s CCTV.

Back in June, the Mid Devon Advertiser reported how teenagers were alleged to have taken her second hand moped from the hospital car park only to abandon it, trashed, just over a mile away.

Now, Maggie has had the double blow of having a second moped stolen from almost the same spot.

The new bike had been chained up outside the maternity unit.

Maggie said: ‘I couldn’t believe it.

‘The first moped that was taken was found by the mother of a baby I had delivered 22 years ago.

‘But this brand new one was stolen from right outside the unit where I can see it when we let patients in.’

When the first moped was stolen, Mid Devon Advertiser readers offered to pay to replace it but Maggie refused all offers of help.

A police spokesman confirmed they were investigating the theft of a moped from the grounds of Torbay Hospital, Torquay.

The vehicle was taken some time between 10pm on June 22 and 9am the next day.

The moped was located in Kingskerswell Road, Torquay, around 9am on June 23 by a member of the public.

It had been left by the side of the road and covered by foliage.

It is claimed the youths who stole the bikes from the hospital for the second time, have allegedly been filming themselves joyriding on TikTok.

Maggie had been riding a push-bike to and from work ever since the first theft.

Long-term partner Ian said that Maggie was – ‘as always’ – being too nice about the situation. He said: ‘These kids need to know the damage they’ve done.

‘She needed her scooter for work and so many people depend on her. We need to bring people like this to book.’

Police are appealing for witnesses and asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious for the first theft to contact them via [email protected] or by telephone on 101, quoting crime reference CR/051902/21.

The second theft is also being investigated between November 8 at 7pm and November 9 and 8.30am.

The crime reference for any witnesses is CR/097849/21
