DEVON and Cornwall Police recorded more than 1,000 violent crimes in schools last year, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has shown.

In 2024, there were 1,182 recorded violent crimes, up from 917 the year prior and 908 in 2022, the FOI shows.

The number has more than doubled in the last five years.

In 2020, there were 532 violent crimes recorded by Devon and Cornwall Police.

Of last year’s figure, just three arrests were made, compared with 15 arrests in 2020.

There were 52 recored knife crimes in 2024, compared with 20 in 2020.
