THE number of drivers who tested positive for cocaine after being pulled over by police has been revealed by a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.
A total of 352 drivers tested positive for the Class A drug in 2024 after being stopped by Devon and Cornwall Police, the FOI request shows.
By comparison, 92 drivers tested positive in 2020.
However, fewer tests were conducted in 2020.
The FOI request shows that 673 tests were conducted in 2020, whereas 2,193 were conducted in 2024.
The maximum penalty for possession of cocaine is up to seven years in prison, an unlimited fine or both.
Cocaine is a highly addictive drug.
It is extracted from the leaves of coca plants and is usually snorted.
