MORE than double the amount of closure orders were secured by police last year than in 2024, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has shown.

In 2025, Devon & Cornwall Police secured a total of 67 closure orders, compared to 28 in 2024, the FOI request shows.

The lion’s share of closure orders were for residential addresses, 46, with the remaining 21 orders relating to non-residential addresses.

A closure order is an order prohibiting access to the premises for a period specified in the order.

The period may not exceed three months.

Applications can be made to a magistrates' court t by either the police or the local authority.

Closure orders were introduced to provide a rapid and decisive response to properties linked to serious crime or persistent anti-social behaviour.
