SOUTH West Water says there has been no sewage discharge at Dawlish beach despite reports of a spill on Monday.
Surfers Against Sewage had reported a discharged at Dawlish Town on Monday at 6.30pm and warned against bathing at the location.
However, SWW, which has just completed a multi-million scheme in Dawlish to improve water quality, says this was due to sensors giving an inaccurate reading.
A spokesman explained that SWW has data from sensors which is ‘not verified in real time’.
This means in Dawlish, some of the new sensors which have been installed are giving inaccurate readings.
Following reports of the discharge, engineers on site in Dawlish checked the area and found no evidence of any discharge.
It was reported there had been four overflows activated in Dawlish on Monday evening.
Surfers Against Sewage had said it was being discharged from a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO).
