Judy Barberton, of Powderham Terrace, Teignmouth, writes:

Yes, Jim Corben, it is beyond belief that distinguished members of the Senior Council for Devon, Teignmouth, Shaldon and Bishopsteignton (October 23) have not read my letter properly otherwise they and others, including Linda Heidemann (October 16) would see that I have never associated the skateboarders with the vandals.

My concern has always been what damage they (the vandals) will enjoy causing to a state of the art skate park, Cllr Falcao having admited that there is a problem already with the miscreants in the playpark at night.

I know that the skateboarders are a dedicated, well-behaved group of youngsters. Next door to me there is a young teenage skateboarder and he is a credit to all the lads his age. My 17-year-old nephew is still a very keen BMXer and skateboarder. His opinion is that, yes, it would be great to have a skate park on the site of the paddling pool but that a promenade is not the appropriate place.

There is no scare campaign, just a commonsense approach to the problem of where to put the skate park, not 'what should be done with the old paddling pool?'

Oxford English Dictionary: Promenade – a paved public walk, typically along the seafront at a resort.
