TEIGNMOUTH'S largest hotel is laying off staff.

The Cliffden, which specialises in holidays and breaks for the blind and partially sighted, has made nine workers redundant to try to stem financial losses. Some have been there for many years.

The hotel in Dawlish Road is one of three operated by Vision Hotels around the country, and a spokesman said it was committed to running it but, as a charity relying on public donations, was no longer able to subsidise the hotels.
