THE next ‘exciting chapter’ of the Market Square project in Newton Abbot gets underway from next week.

Repaving work will be carried out in seven ‘carefully phased sections’ starting the week of August 11, Teignbridge District Council (TDC) has said.

‘This transformation will enhance the space for everyone, and we have carefully planned the works to minimise disruption to local businesses’, the council said in its latest Residents Newsletter.

Some works will take place during the day, while others will be scheduled outside of normal trading hours to reduce impact.

Crucially, any work directly outside shopfronts will happen outside of business hours, TDC has made clear.

‘Our contractor is committed to maintaining clear access for both customers and retailers throughout the project’, the council said.

‘We’ll begin with the area opposite the Market Hall and gradually move into the square’, the council added.
