RETROSPECTIVE planning permission to replace wooden windows with double glazed uPVC units in a period Teignmouth flat has been refused.
The work has already been carried out at Flat 8, 1 South View, a Grade II listed building in the conservation area, and Gavin Thomas Hill appealed against refusal of consent by Teignbridge Council.
Dismissing the appeal, inspector Colin Ball said English Heritage advised that the replacement of traditional windows in listed buildings should always be a last resort, if repair was not possible.
'Any replacement should be "like-for-like", that is, an exact copy of the original window in design, detailing, material and finish in every respect.
