BUILDINGS in Newton Abbot and Teignmouth have scooped awards for their excellence.

Pavilions Teignmouth and South Devon UTC in Newton Abbot were recognised at the 2016 South West Local Authority Building Excellence Awards on July 1.

They took the accolades for ‘best large commercial building’ and ‘best educational building’ respectively.

Both structures had been nominated by the Devon Building Control Partnership, which provides the building control service in Teignbridge and surrounding areas.

The ceremony, held in Plymouth, recognises everything from best local builder to best extension.

Cllr Humphrey Clemens, chairman of the Devon Building Control Partnership, said: ‘It is fantastic to see projects of all shapes and sizes recognised for their innovation.

‘It is particularly pleasing to see these two buildings recognised.

‘Teignbridge Council played a crucial role in bringing these strategic projects to fruition.

‘Both unlock benefits to businesses and communities.’

The two buildings are now through to the grand finals in London on November 28.
