Sean Brogan, of Coombe Vale Road, Teignmouth, writes:

In your report last week headlined Steen to stand down after row on expenses, you rightly point out the public anger at the exposure of the scandal of MPs' expenses.

Why should public money be used to clean moats, build duck houses and purchase mirrors? MPs earn £65,000 per year. Ninety per cent of us earn less than £40,000, which puts MPs among the top ten per cent of earners.

The vast majority of Teignbridge residents earn well below £24,000, especially pensioners and service workers.

Steen fell on his sword by his foolish comments. what, then, happens in Teignbridge? Is it to be left to the Liberal Association to decide our MP's fate? The few meetings that have been held in public houses are not enough. Other Mps have held public meetings and there are plenty of facilities, Newton Abbot Community Centre or the Carlton Theatre, Teignmouth, to name but two.

Let's have a proper meeting.
