THE area's MP has praised a Teignmouth learning centre as a credit to the community.

Anne Marie Morris, who represents the Newton Abbot constituency, was presenting certificates to people who obtained national qualifications in IT, literacy, numeracy, creative writing and volunteering, at the Inverteign Family Learning Centre.

'I am proud to have met and awarded certificates.

'It is a truly inspiring place staffed by inspiring people.

'The centre allows adults to develop the fundamental skills they need in order to get on in life, and be good parents.

'It focuses on some of the hardest to reach members of the community, some of whom have profound difficulties with reading and writing due to dyslexia, and encourages them back into education in a way that is enjoyable, innovative and effective.

'I salute the work here, and I will do everything I can to support the centre,' she said.

The centre is based at Inverteign Community Nurser and Primary School and, during 2009-2010, 70 learners gained national qualifications, and 250 residents received individual support to introduce them to the internet.

The aim is to enable parents to support their children's learning, and develop the skills they need to return to work.
