TEIGNMOUTH'S prominent but sub-standard Kingsway flats could be demolished and replaced with 'ordinary' houses.

The four-storey apartments have superb views over the countryside and sea, but were badly built 50 years ago and have needed continual repairs and maintenance.

The area is one of the most deprived in the region and many councillors favour flattening the flats, and providing new homes to modern standards.

There is also a call to replace the shabby Meadow Centre – which is the hub of many sterling community activities – with a new building as part of a major rejuvenation of Kingsway.
