FIREFIGHTERS in Moretonhampstead worked swiftly to gain control over a property fire in the town centre.

Joined by colleagues from Bovey Tracey and Chagford, the Moreton crew were called into action at around 9.30pm on Thursday, March 12, following reports of a fire at a property.

The crew’s quick response saw the fire contained to one room of the property, before being put out.

Statistics released by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government show the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended 3,871 fires between June 2024 and 2025, up 20 per cent from 3,214 the previous year.
