THERE were more than 20,000 drivers caught speeding in 20mph zones last year, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has shown.
A total of 20,966 Notices of Intended Prosecution (NIPs) were served to drivers in the Devon & Cornwall policing area in the 2024/25 financial year, the FOI request shows.
July 2025 saw the most NIPS served at 2,959, with June 2024 seeing the fewest at 1,181.
Last year’s figures were the highest in the past three years; 2023/24 saw 15,517 NIPs served and 2022/23 saw 18,184
If you receive a speed camera activation letter or notice you’ll be sent a fixed penalty £100 fine and have three penalty points added to your licence.
However, you may be eligible for a driver retraining scheme course instead.
